Utah Backcountry Ski Guides

Zion Mountain School, in conjunction with Tushar Mountain Tours, guides backcountry skiing in the beautifully immense Tushar Mountains, Utah’s hidden gem.  According to Tyson Bradley’s Backcountry Skiing Utah guide book, “Southwestern Utah’s Crowning glory (for a skier) are the 12,000-foot Tushar mountains.  This collection of high, windy peaks gathers an average of 400 inches of base-building snow per winter…This may be the easiest place in Utah to get twelve months of skiing…”

We offer single day tours, multi-day backcountry yurt tours, as well as a multi-sport package that includes backcountry ski tour with a day of fun multi-pitch ice climbing. All of these trips include ice climbing gear, necessary ski safety  equipment, as well as ski and split-board packages for most sizes.

If you can ski and/or snowboard, a backcountry guided trip is a a great experience to learn from professionals on how to safely experience these mountains without the lifts and the crowds of the Wasatch. All ski guides have decades of experience in the backcountry, and have a minimum of American Avalanche Institute (AAI) Level I training. Alec is our senior guide who has guided and taught Avalanche education for over 15 years.
